Dou’ale Roble
Y Second Stage Youth Housing Program
Dou’ale arrived in Ottawa on his 17th birthday. Born and raised in Somalia, he spent his childhood under constant threat from gunfire and civil war. His mother sent him to Ottawa to keep him safe.
The first six months in Ottawa were difficult. Dou’ale was isolated and lonely; he was struggling to adjust to life in Canada while learning a new language. But all that changed when he came to the Y.
As a part of the Second Stage Youth Housing program, Dou’ale has found a safe, supportive place to call home. He is now able to speak fluent English, has many friends, participates in fitness programs and has meaningful employment.
Dou’ale is currently working towards furthering his education in sales and marketing, a newly discovered passion.
With your support, the Y can help people like Dou'ale access programs to support their physical, social and mental wellbeing. Give today and help your community grow stronger!
