Our programs are open to all; a Y membership is not required to participate.

Discover exercise that has your heart in mind!

Physical activity is important to your overall health. Heart Wise Exercise programs are certified fitness classes appropriate for people who want to stay healthy and who may be living with a chronic health condition.

A program or class that displays the Heart Wise Exercise logo does all of the following:

  • Encourages regular, daily aerobic exercise
  • Encourages and incorporates warm up, cool down and self-monitoring with all exercise sessions
  • Allows participants to exercise at a safe level and offers options to modify intensity
    Includes participants with chronic health conditions – physician approval may be required
  • Offers health screening for all participants
  • Has a documented emergency plan that is known to all exercise leaders, including the requirement of current CPR certification, phone access to local paramedic services and presence of a defibrillator.

Programs, Classes and Activities: Important Information

  • Drop-in Classes: Require no booking/registration. These activities are included as part of your Y membership (non-members must purchase a day pass to participate).

    Examples of drop-in activities include: Open Gym, Youth Night, Family Badminton

  • Bookable Activities/Services: These activities have a capacity limit and should be booked in advance each time you wish to participate to guarantee your spot. These activities/services are included as part of your Y membership (non-members must purchase a day pass to participate).

    Y Members can book online, by phone, or in person.  Non-members can only book in person or via phone.

    Examples of bookable classes: Cyclefit, Child minding, Lane swim, Open swim, Pickleball, Adult Volleyball, Youth Badminton (Clarence-Rockland Y).

  • Registered Programs:  In order to be guaranteed a spot to participate in a registered program, a Y member/non-member must register for these programs for the full session (not each day/week). This includes group fitness classes as well as other Y programs.

    Group fitness classes are included as part of your Y membership, and Y members also have two free registered programs included in their memberships. Non-member pricing is also available for all registered programs. Registration for programs can done online, by phone or in person.

Registrations:

You must be registered to participate in all group fitness classes (except Cyclefit - see below) and Y programs. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability. Full payment is required upon registration. (Two registered programs per session are included in your Y membership, and you may participate in as many* group fitness classes as you like).  You can register:

  1. Online: Programs can be viewed and registered for online

    To register for classes online, you must either already have an existing online account or start by creating an online account.

  2. In person
    You can register for programs in person at the Clarence-Rockland Y or Taggart Family Y.

Drop-ins and Non-Members
Classes that are not at capacity will be open to drop-ins at no charge to members; non-members will be charged a day pass rate.

Cyclefit Class Booking
Cyclefit classes are not registered by session, they are booked each week. Your space can be reserved prior to each class, up to one week in advance by using our online booking system, by phone, or in person.

To book your Cyclefit classes: log into your Y account. You will see a "make a booking" section at the top of the page. Follow the instructions.

Booking:

Booking guarantees your participation in certain Y activities/services. 

  1. Online: Y Members can book activities/services online. Non-members cannot book online.

  2. In person
    You can book activities/services in person at the Clarence-Rockland Y or Taggart Family Y.

  3. By phone. Book your activities/services by calling:

* Attendance will be taken. Any registered participants who miss more than 2 classes per session without notice will be removed from the class list and the space made available to another participant.

Methods of payment include VISA, MasterCard and American Express. Cash, cheque and Interac options available for registrations made in person.

Classes that fall on statutory holidays will not run; fees are prorated accordingly

The Y reserves the right to cancel, postpone or combine classes based on enrolment. Refunds or account credits will be issued where applicable.

Requests for refunds must be made in writing – by mail or email. The course/camp fee per session, less 25% will be refunded if cancellation occurs with a minimum of two weeks’ notice prior to the start of the program/camp.

There is no fee for transfers between sessions. All transfers must be completed at least two weeks prior to the session start date.

No refunds are offered with less than two weeks notice. There are no refunds for children who are asked to leave a course/camp due to behavioural issues.

Our child and youth facility access guidelines are in place for everyone's safety and security. All members, guests and visitors must check in before entering our facilities, and all, non-members are required to present photo ID prior to entry to the Y.

Group Fitness Classes:

All Group Fitness classes are included in your Y membership!
Registration for the entire session is required (except for Cyclefit which is booked weekly), and Y members may register for as many classes as they wish at no charge.  

Y Programs:
Two free Y programs per session are included in your membership at no additional cost (eg: swim lessons, family karate, yoga).

*Some programs are excluded: for example, Certification Courses, and only one concurrent Swim Lesson is permitted each session.
