What do you offer?
Some of the tasks of this position include:
- Operation of the heating and cooling system, including monitoring of gauges and control systems, troubleshooting, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance of equipment
- Operation and maintenance of pool systems, and chemical tests (Pool operators’ certificate would be an asset)
- Advise management of the area in need of long-term and or immediate attention
- To be proactive in undertaking maintenance tasks or in identifying tasks that are needed to operate the facility in a safe manner
- General repairs to walls including patching, sanding & painting
- Change lights & ballasts and clean lenses, as needed
- Room checkouts and changeovers in Housing
- Make tile repairs to ceramic, and vinyl composite on floors and walls
- Key cutting and lock changes
- General maintenance duties in the back of house areas such as a workshop, pipe chases, and mechanical rooms Facility grounds maintenance including lawn cutting, snow removal, etc.
- (Winter months may require an early start for snow removal)
- Conduct preventative maintenance tasks on facility equipment outlined by the Facilities Director
- Basic plumbing repairs including soldering, unplugging sinks & toilets, tap, cartridge & valve repairs
- Basic electrical repairs including repairs to receptacles, light switches, and ballasts
- Operates hand tools such as saws, drills, etc.
- Follows safe work practices and wears appropriate personal protective equipment
- (fall assist would be an asset)
- Completes work orders as assigned
What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:
Education
- Post-secondary education or equivalent in a related field
Language
- The ability to work in English and some French would be an asset
Experience, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic facility maintenance functions such as painting, plumbing, electrical and general repairs
- Experience in all facets of Building Operations including, HVAC, Controls, and Electrical, and possess a strong mechanical aptitude
- Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively, professionally, and diplomatically with staff, vendors, and customers
- Ability to work in a fast pace environment
- Ability to be on call every 4th week
Additional Requirements:
- Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
- Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required
- Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons, and submit the certificate of completion.
