Housing Services

A safe place to call home.

In the late 1800s, the YMCA and YWCA were founded in Ottawa in response to a need for shelter for men and women. Since then, the YMCA of the National Capital Region has provided housing services to our community.

Located in the Taggart Family Y, the Shenkman Residence offers community housing services including a family emergency shelter, a youth transitional housing program, supportive housing floors, and a supportive housing program for women.

The Shenkman Residence provides stability to people in our community who are at risk of homelessness or living in unstable/unsafe housing. We welcome families, newcomers to Canada, individuals in transition, and individuals coping with issues related to physical/mental health or substance abuse.

Working with our community partners, the Y provides affordable, safe housing in an environment that promotes mutual respect, support and tolerance.
