The Wilda Phillips Leadership Bursary Fund will award a $1,000 bursary to assist YMCA staff in pursuing further education, professional development, or other training that supports their career growth.
Preference will be given to staff whose chosen program is directly aligned with their career path, particularly in program areas critical to the YMCA’s work.
It is our hope that this opportunity will help identify and encourage future leaders who embody the values of the YMCA in their work. This bursary also advances the YMCA of the National Capital Region’s mission of developing leaders and engaging staff in lifelong learning and growth.

Nurturing leadership in others.
The Wilda Phillips Leadership Bursary Fund was established in 2006 by the YMCA of the National Capital Region in recognition of Wilda’s leadership and immeasurable contributions to the Y. Throughout her career, she demonstrated and applied the Y’s values in her work. Her commitment, passion and considerable skills were always directed to making the YMCA of the National Capital Region the best organization possible in both our local and national communities.
Sadly, Wilda passed away on September 4, 2020. This fund will continue to honour her incredible ability to achieve significant personal and professional success, without compromising her focus on people or her cherished values. One of her greatest achievements was her ability to identify, nurture and cultivate leadership in others. It is in this spirit the Wilda Phillips Leadership Bursary Fund was established upon her retirement.
